If you’re wondering whether your PC will be up to the task of handling Armored Core 6 when it goes live on Steam next week, the easiest way to tell is to look at how it handled Elden Ring, because the basic system requirements are very similar.
If you didn’t play Elden Ring, or you just have a thing for numbers and brand names, the full system requirements are now out and, I’m happy to say, not too demanding. Even with ray tracing enabled, the recommended hardware isn’t super high-end, although that may be at least in part because, as the little asterisk indicates, “ray tracing is only available in the garage area of the game,” where players customize their fighting machines.
If you’re happy to pass on all of that, you can dial the minimum hardware spec even lower, to just a Core i7-4790K, 12GB RAM, and a GTX 1650. That’s probably not going to deliver the optimal Armored Core 6 experience, but it does mean that a mid-range gaming PC should be able to handle it with aplom…
As the tech industry rushes headlong into a future where the term “AI” seems to be bolted on to every new product release and development, Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger gave an interesting take on the future of AI at the World Economic Forum this week. When asked about AI research and development, he made reference to Daniel Kahneman’s book, “Thinking, Fast and Slow”, and the merits of the book’s foundational principle when applied to AI.
Kahneman makes the distinction that to his mind, there are two ways of thinking: Fast and intuitive, and slow and rational. Gelsinger makes the point that as AI development currently stands, all of our AI systems today are “thinking fast”, and that bringing rational thinking and reasoning into AI, ie “thinking slow” is a huge area of current research.
“All of our AI systems today are thinking fast, we haven’t brought reasoning into AI” said the CEO. “Today our systems hallucinate, tomorrow if we’re going to use them broadly, they have to be…

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launched on 21 August, 2012, and on 11 February 2023 it has just surpassed its all-time record of concurrent players: At the time of writing, 1,320,219 players are in-game, while the previous record was 1,308,963 players around three years ago.
Counter-Strike dates back to 1999, and began as a mod for Half-Life that became popular enough for Valve to take notice, and make one of the best decisions in its history. It bought the rights and hired the co-creators to work on making it into a standalone release. Counter-Strike 1.0 is now 23 years old.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the latest iteration of what the official twitter account, quite rightly, calls “your favourite first-person shooter’s favourite first-person shooter.” It has features that the older versions didn’t but remains fundamentally the same game and, while there are dozens of different ways to play, the quintessential CS experience is five terrorists trying to plant a …
Deathloop: Now there’s one that came and went. Though the game was received very positively and many still swear by it now, personally I haven’t played anything so irritating in recent memory: The way the characters yap constantly, the graffiti all over the place, the completely unfulfilled promise of time-travelling flexibility… yeah, OK, it didn’t land for me.
But it did for others, and was arguably somewhat successful in presenting elements of the immersive sim genre in a new light. It may have lacked the grandeur and complexity of developer Arkane’s Dishonored games, but I’d bet that more Deathloop players have finished the game than either of the Dishonoreds. And it always felt like that was the brief. Arkane make, well, gorgeously arcane and lavish labyrinths and Bethesda, clutching the purse strings, went “yeah d’you think you could do that but maybe make it a bit easier to sell to people?”
Just a hunch but, going on what Arkane founder Raphaël …
The US Federal Trade Commission has been granted a temporary restraining order against Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This means the deal is now officially on hold until the courts can rule on the FTC’s request for a preliminary injunction against the closure of the deal—which is itself a temporary measure aimed at halting the deal until the FTC’s legal challenge against the acquisition is completed.
As reported by The Verge, the FTC filed for the temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction on June 12, apparently out of concern that Microsoft would move to close the deal despite UK regulators ruling against it. The proposed acquisition has been approved in numerous other jurisdictions, including the European Union and China. The UK ruling is currently under appeal, while in the US a lawsuit filed by the FTC in December 2022 is still working its way through the courts.
“Until recently, Defendants indicated that they would not com…
While Hollow Knight: Silksong didn’t have an exact release date, its appearance at the Xbox & Bethesda showcase in June of 2022—which Xbox made a point of saying was focused on games coming in the following 12 months—led us to expect that it would release by June, 2023. That may no longer be the case.
Matthew Griffin, who does marketing and publishing for Hollow Knight developer Team Cherry, has provided an update about its progress on Twitter. Griffin noted, “We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”
Silksong was originally conceived as an expansion for Hollow Knight, but quickly became a full-fledged sequel with a new protagonist, playstyle, and setting. Seems like it’s continued to expand during development, though whether this will result in a significant delay remains to…
